A video study, this project was accomplished by using a floating "photo mode" camera within the video game, No Man's Sky. My main goals for this trailer were focused on two aspects: to transpose the song from its original intention into new scenarios, and to maintain a consistent motion & rhythm throughout.
Capturing in-game footage suitable for use is always a challenging task due to the lack of filmmaking tools released to the public for a given game, yet these are always fun to tackle between other projects. Specific to this video's challenges, photo mode simply isn't meant for moving video and will actually pause the game entirely. To address this, a second computer was used to join the recording system's game and convert it into a multiplayer session, eliminating the pausing. The shots in where a player or ship is moving is always the most difficult, since this comes down to me simultaneously "acting" and filming those actions. Another aspect of note are the beginning and end sequences with the round station, as it doesn't behave dynamically in-game, and had to be manipulated in post to act believably without signally the presence of VFX.
